“ I was told that the pastrami here would change my life, and...wow. From the first bite, I already knew that my view of pastrami would be changed after having it here. Their pastrami dip is amazing - fresh bread, great cuts, and great flavor. Their chili fries are awesome too, but it is a very large serving so be aware when you order. They also have nice horchata! Their servers are also ready nice and funny :) Will definitely go out of my way to come back if I am ever down in SoCal again ”
“ This is the spot to visit when you're hankering for fries. It's always served hot and cooked to perfection; crisp on the outside and soft inside. I ordered pastrami chili fries (no cheese) with the chili and peppers on the side so fries don't get soggy. The staff is friendly, service is quick and they accommodate requests like mine with a smile so that's always a plus! There's ample parking in the lot and outdoor seating for those who want to dine in. Wait time was roughly 5-10 minutes for me at lunch time on a Tuesday. ”

I let the crew know that I'm taking 6 home to family in SF and they wrapped it up expertly with TLC. LOVE seeing how these old classics are still kicking it after 70 years in business. “ Not a first timer to The Hat, but first visit to this location. You do need to go up to the window. I took mine to go, but there are several tables outside under a covered roof if you want to enjoy your yummy food there. Pastrami dip is always my go to. In addition to the mustard and pickles that come on it, I add mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion. So good!! They do NOT skimp on the pastrami. What something a little extra?? Add a side of gravy. It's also a great fry-dipper. But only a sandwich to go on this visit for me. Craving pastrami?? Go to The Hat!! Yum-o!! ”
“ This place does really have amazing pastrami. It's thin, tasty, fresh, plenty of meat, not too much fatty parts, and it comes with French roll and mustard and pickles and dip. Nice and simple. The pastrami meat is really good. Usually the texture of pastrami is thicker and more fleshy but this is so yummy because it's just slivers and I love it! Outdoors seating and free parking. Totally worth the trip to stop here. ”

There's a reason they've been around for decades and why you'll find me here on the regular getting my pastrami sandwich or burgers and fries fix. The service is always consistent. Although there will be a small wait on the weekends, you can call ahead your order prior to arriving. There is an outdoor patio if dining there. The joint has remained the same ever since I can remember, with their iconic neon sign on the corner of Garfield and Valley. My go-tos are: Chili Cheese Fries with Pastrami and the works (tomatoes, pickles, onions) Cheeseburger Pastrami Dip Side of Gravy Wild Cherry soda to wash it all down! ”
